Seasonal Affective Disorder SAD

Winter is fast approaching and with it obviously the change in weather as well as a reduction in the amount of daylight and increase in darkness. Animals may hibernate and us humans often feel that way as well but normally this is out of the question with our 24/7 living. For some people the darkness brings a change of character and emotional upheaval. Depression, sleeplessness, anxiety and tiredness with lethargy are some of the disruptions experienced.

One way to alleviate these sypmtoms is by using a natural day light bulb lamp/light. They are much easier now to buy and you can get them where you set the waking up time and the light gradually gets brighter as a natural awakener. A local cafe where I live has bought a lamp with day light bulbs and placed it above one of the tables so that people can sit there and enjoy a daylight top up – putting a smile on their face and feel a bit happier.

Watch this clip from Meridian ITV, a UK Television report on Seasonal Affective Disorder where I am interviewed. I mention the use of Bach Flower Remedies for relief of SAD seasonal affective disorder, depression, anxiety, stress, tiredness, sleep problems and lathergy.

Bach flowers are made using natural flowers, plants and trees often placing (parts of) them in pure water exposed to sunlight so that the water takes on energy and life force. The flower essences are a natural and complementary system of healthcare that work in a similar way to that of homoepathy. Bach flower remedies work to balance and support our emotional health.

Walnut may be useful to take for the change of season and getting used to less daylight.

Mustard is known as a remedy where you feel that a ‘dark cloud has decended over you for no known reason’, Mustard (may) helps that temporary feeling of being ‘down’ to lift away.
